Darwin's Cardboard Jungle INSTALLATION

In collaboration with the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA) a campaign strategy was developed to educate the public about animal cruelty.

The gruesome nature of the issue of animal cruelty usually causes people to turn a blind eye, so a more friendly approach was developed; an installation consisting of six different animals, each representing a different issue that WSPA deals with.

The animals were deliberately built on a large scale to play on the idea of dominance, in direct relation to Charles Darwin's theory of survival of the fittest; showing size & intelligence should not dictate exploitation, but rather evoke compassion.

Each animal is built with 100% recycled card with coloured spots highlighting an issue and how the public can help prevent it.

The installation is intended to be non-intrusive, allowing the public to interact with the animals. The whale is used as a message carrier, where people can write notes on it to the Australian Environments minister to show their support against whaling. The sheep is used as a mail box to encourage people to send a postcard to their friends, informing them about the cruelty of live sheep export.
